In a powerful display of solidarity, the Embassy of Pakistan in Ireland in collaborations with the Kashmir Peace Forum to commemorate the fourth anniversary of Youm-e-Istehsaal-e-Kashmir on August 5th. The event marked the solemn occasion when, in 2019, the Indian Government unilaterally and controversially revoked the special status of the region of Jammu and Kashmir. Participants from diverse backgrounds, including Irish parliamentarians, local councillors, human rights activists, legal experts, and members of the Pakistani-Kashmiri diaspora, convened to discuss the implications of this decision and to stand up against ongoing human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The seminar was a platform for passionate voices to express their concerns over the Indian Government’s actions and its effects on the region. Attendees unanimously condemned the unilateral abrogation of the special status of Kashmir and voiced their outrage over the continuous human rights abuses that have been reported from the region since. Speakers passionately addressed the audience, highlighting the urgent need for international attention to the suffering of the Kashmiri people and the necessity of addressing the root causes of the dispute.
Prominent figures and experts participating in the event underscored the importance of adhering to international law and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to bring about a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir conflict. Many called upon the international community to exert pressure on the Indian Government, urging them to engage in dialogue and work toward a just solution that respects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The seminar served as a stark reminder of the unresolved tensions and human rights concerns in the region. It brought together a diverse array of voices, united in their commitment to raising awareness about the plight of the Kashmiri people and advocating for their right to self-determination as recognized by international law.
As the event concluded, participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, justice, and the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people. With the support of a global community of advocates, they vowed to continue their efforts to bring attention to the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to work toward a lasting and equitable solution to the conflict.
