CORK, IRELAND — A colourful community event was organised in Cork to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, bringing together a large number of women, children and members of the Pakistani community in a vibrant display of patriotism, culture and national pride.
The celebration highlighted Pakistan’s rich culture, traditions and national spirit, while providing an opportunity for Pakistani families living in Ireland to come together and celebrate their connection with their homeland.
The chief organiser of the event, Dr. Farah Deeba, said that the purpose of organising such events is to help overseas Pakistanis, particularly the younger generation, remain connected with their culture, traditions and homeland.
The event was also attended by a number of distinguished guests and community representatives, including former Lord Mayor of Cork Councillor Kieran McCarthy, TD Colm Burke and Mary D’Souza, along with other prominent personalities.
Children played a particularly enthusiastic role in the celebrations. Dressed in Pakistan’s national colours of green and white, they expressed their love for Pakistan through speeches, patriotic songs and a variety of performances, adding energy and excitement to the occasion.
The event also showcased Pakistani culture through stalls featuring traditional food and clothing. Face painting activities and a special henna (mehndi) session for women and children proved especially popular and became one of the highlights of the celebration.
The gathering reflected the strong sense of community among Pakistanis living in Cork and demonstrated their commitment to passing on Pakistan’s cultural heritage and national identity to the next generation.
The celebrations concluded with the cutting of an Independence Day cake, bringing the colourful and patriotic event to a memorable close.
