Dublin, Ireland — Pakistan and Ireland are continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector, with a particular focus on medical training, professional development and collaboration between leading healthcare institutions of the two countries.
A visiting delegation from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), led by President Prof. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi and Senior Vice President Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, called on Pakistan’s Ambassador to Ireland, Mariam Aftab, at the Embassy of Pakistan in Dublin.
The delegation also included heads and representatives of Irish healthcare institutions, including representatives associated with Ireland’s Royal Colleges and the Health Service Executive (HSE).
During the meeting, the CPSP leadership briefed Ambassador Aftab on the College’s international initiatives and its expanding cooperation across different regions. Particular attention was given to the ongoing collaboration with Irish institutions and the HSE for the training and professional development of Pakistani doctors in Ireland.
The delegation expressed appreciation for the Embassy of Pakistan’s continued support in facilitating and promoting healthcare cooperation between Pakistan and Ireland.
Welcoming the delegation, Ambassador Mariam Aftab highlighted the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Ireland bilateral relations and the growing cooperation between the two countries across a range of sectors.
She particularly acknowledged the important contribution made by Pakistani doctors and other healthcare professionals to Ireland’s health services, noting that their work and professionalism have earned recognition at both leadership and community levels in Ireland.
The Ambassador also referred to her meeting with President of Ireland Catherine Connolly in January, during which President Connolly praised the contribution and services of Pakistani doctors working in Ireland.
Ambassador Aftab described the CPSP-HSE initiative for the training of Pakistani doctors as a mutually beneficial partnership. Such programmes, she noted, provide Pakistani medical professionals with valuable international experience while enabling them to bring enhanced knowledge, expertise and professional practices back to Pakistan.
She congratulated the CPSP leadership and its team for their efforts in strengthening Pakistan’s international standing within the global medical community.
The Ambassador emphasised the importance of further expanding institutional partnerships between Pakistan and Ireland, particularly in medical education, specialist training and healthcare development.
She assured the visiting delegation of the Embassy’s full support for initiatives aimed at deepening Pakistan-Ireland cooperation in the healthcare sector.
The engagement reflects the growing role of healthcare as an important area of bilateral cooperation and highlights the contribution Pakistani medical professionals continue to make to Ireland’s healthcare system.
