County Meath, Ireland — Cork-based human rights activist and community development practitioner Fahmeda Naheed has been honoured with the Social Impact Award at this year’s Sheroes Global Initiative Awards, recognising her contribution to community empowerment, migrant inclusion, and social justice in Ireland.
Naheed, who is also the founder of the Irish Pakistani Community of Cork, described the evening as “empowering, inspiring, and filled with remarkable people who uplift others through their work.” Out of more than 150 nominees, only 10 individuals were selected for recognition, making the achievement particularly significant.
Cork Well Represented
The ceremony also highlighted strong representation from Cork, with two Corkonians receiving awards. Local representative Cllr. Honore, endearingly known as “Abu Cork,” proudly presented the awards—prompting Fahmeda to remark humorously that once the Cork awardees took the stage, “the Cork craic began.”
“We Rebels are always number one,” she added with a smile, celebrating Cork’s spirited character.
Warm Welcome in Meath, Fahmeda expressed gratitude to the people of County Meath for their hospitality, noting that she had visited only two weeks prior and was deeply moved to be welcomed back so soon. “This is classic Irish behaviour—love attracts love,” she said.
She also thanked Cllr. Oluwayemi ‘Yemi’ Adenuga for her generosity and warm reception during the event, acknowledging the ongoing leadership and advocacy that Adenuga brings to community development across Ireland.
A Message of Gratitude and Community
In her remarks, Naheed extended appreciation to the selection panel, her family, friends, colleagues, employers, and educational institutions that shaped her journey. She credited her “Cork Social DNA” for instilling a drive to continuously think, act, and create meaningful change. “This award is not just for me—it is for every person who believes in equality, dignity, and community. I am honoured, encouraged, and more committed than ever.” Fahmeda said she looks forward to returning to Meath soon, inspired by the connections and solidarity celebrated on the night.
