Dublin, Ireland — Cork-based human rights advocate and community development leader Fahmeda Naheed has been recognised at the Volunteer Ireland National Awards 2025, receiving the prestigious honour in the category of Campaigning and Activism. The ceremony celebrated exceptional volunteers from across the country whose work strengthens communities, promotes inclusion, and creates meaningful social change.
The evening was described as “beautiful, colourful, and empowering”, bringing together volunteers and community leaders from all corners of Ireland.
A Unique Artistic Tribute
As part of the award, Naheed received a personalised illustration created by Irish artist Linda Byrne. The sketch, a warm and expressive portrait of Naheed wearing her hijab, was warmly received by attendees. “Thank you, Linda, for portraying a Muslim girl with such beauty, dignity, and a blessed smile,” Fahmeda shared. “Everyone loved it.”
Cork Meets Dublin: A Special Moment
The celebration also included a memorable encounter with Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
Fahmeda reflected with humour and pride:
“Imagine meeting a Cork woman and a Cork man from the real capital—in the Dublin capital! It was a special moment.”
A Message for a Peaceful and Inclusive Ireland, In her remarks, Fahmeda emphasised unity, diversity, and the importance of collective action.
“We all have so much in common, and our differences are created by nature. Together, we must build a peaceful Ireland for ourselves and for future generations.”
She extended heartfelt encouragement to fellow campaigners and activists:
“To everyone who starts a small conversation, takes a small step, or shows a small act of bravery in their communities—your impact matters.”
