This year, Fahmeda Naheed, the founder of the Irish Pakistani Community of Cork, played a pivotal role in organizing two remarkable events that showcased the richness of Cork’s cultural tapestry.
Food Tasting Extravaganza at Farranree Community Centre
One of the highlights of Cultural Night Cork 2023 was the Food Tasting event held at Farranree Community Centre in Farranree, Cork. Fahmeda Naheed, in collaboration with Cork City Partnership and SICAP, curated a delightful culinary experience that transcended borders. The event featured a mouthwatering array of Pakistani, Indian, and Ukrainian cuisines, providing a tantalizing fusion of flavors. Visitors had the opportunity to savor these delectable dishes while immersing themselves in a vibrant atmosphere.
But the Food Tasting was just the beginning. The event also boasted an array of entertainment options. The crowd was serenaded by music from diverse backgrounds, including Pakistani melodies. Talented balloon modellers, face painters, and henna artists added a whimsical touch to the evening, drawing in people of all ages. The collaborative spirit of the night was evident as stalls featuring artists from both the Pakistani and Irish communities adorned the venue.
The turnout was nothing short of impressive, with over a hundred community members in attendance. Among them were individuals from different faiths, An Garda Síochána members, professionals, parents, grandparents, children, and more. The event served as a testament to the power of cultural exchange in fostering unity and harmony within the community.
Textile Exhibition at St. Peter’s Church
In addition to the delectable Food Tasting event, Cultural Night Cork 2023 also featured a captivating textile exhibition at St. Peter’s Church in Cork. This exhibition, which showcased the rich tapestries of different cultures, offered a visual feast for attendees. Visitors had the opportunity to explore textile displays from Roma, Mexican, and Pakistani traditions, each telling its own unique story through intricate patterns and vibrant colors.
