Dr.Umar Al Qadri (Chair, Irish Muslim Peace & Integration Council. Chief Imam & Mufti, Islamic Centre of Ireland) on behalf of Muslim Community of Ireland Attended the vigil today along Minister Jack Chambers and other politicians in Blanchardstown of the inspiring school teacher Ashling Murphy.
Ashling Murphy (23) was killed on Wednesday 12th Jan 2022 afternoon in a random attack while out jogging in Tullamore.
In his short message he said:
As Muslims we know very well that the murder of one innocent person is equivalent to the murder of the whole of mankind as this is stated in the Holy Quran. I was provided an opportunity to say a few words along Minister Jack Chambers and other politicians at the vigil. The attack has united the whole country and is considered a watershed moment. Women should be safe wherever they are and it’s important to listen to their voices when discussing them. Let women speak for themselves. As a man we shouldn’t be the one to speak on behalf of women. We should just listen to them most importantly.
As a man, I’m not here to speak. I’m here to listen. I think it’s time for us men to understand that we need to listen to women.
