Dr-Umar Al-Qadri Strongly condemns incitement of hatred and Islamophobia by India’s BJP leader

On-behalf of the Irish Muslim Community in Ireland Dr-Umar Al-Qadri strongly condemns incitement of hatred and Islamophobia by India’s BJP leader. BJP national spokeswoman Nupur Sharma was suspended from the party’s primary membership on Sunday for comments made in a recent television debate, Nupur Sharma is reported to have insulted the prophet and his wife Aisha in a TV debate last week. Following an outcry over the comments made during the debate, Sharma’s colleague Jindal is reported to have posted a now-deleted tweet about the prophet that also angered many.

Dr-Umar Al-Qadri Chair, Irish Muslim Council & Chief Imam & Mufti, Islamic Centre of Ireland condemn this statement by Indian official spokeswomen.

He Said :

I strongly condemns incitement of hatred and Islamophobia by India’s BJP leader. Muslims are being persecuted under the BJP rulership and their religious freedom is being infringed. From banning the Hijab in schools, publicly blaming Muslims for COVID19, public lynching of Muslims while forcing them to chant Hindu slogans to direct attacks on the most sacred symbol of the Islamic world, the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is marginalising Muslims in India.

Muslims in Ireland are extremely concerned about the situation in India and are standing in solidarity with Muslims in India in this difficult time. We pray that Allah brings a government that represents the diversity of India and promotes peaceful Co-existence and religious pluralism.

The current situation in India reminds us of the history in India during British colonial rule which facilitated division and hatred between faith communities by strengthening Hindutva extremism. The atmosphere of dehumanising Muslims and threat to religious freedom of Muslims in India facilitated the creation of Pakistan.
All Indian parties should unite against BJP fascist government to ensure that India becomes a plural nation which ensures religious freedom to all its citizens and cherishes all its citizens.
