Collaboration with Cllr Dr. Colette Finn and Immigrant Council of Ireland Empowers Migrants to Participate in Irish Politics
Cork, Ireland – Usman Sharif, a member of the Irish Pakistani Community of Cork, is actively involved in a groundbreaking project known as the Migrants Councillors Internship 2023. This initiative, initiated by the Immigrant Council of Ireland, aims to foster political engagement and empower migrants to participate in Irish politics.
In a recent development, Usman Sharif had the opportunity to visit the Oireachtas, including the Dail and Seanad, where he met with influential figures such as Ministers, TDs (Teachta Dála), and Senator Eileen Flynn. Expressing his gratitude to the Immigrant Council of Ireland for organizing the visit, Sharif highlighted the significance of this experience in fostering a sense of inclusion and representation for migrants in Irish political affairs.
Accompanied by Cllr Dr. Colette Finn, Usman Sharif also had the pleasure of interacting with other notable personalities during the visit. Cllr Azad Talukder and Wasim Butt were present, further showcasing the growing involvement and influence of migrant communities in Irish politics.
At the core of this endeavor is the Migrant Political Participation Training, a program specifically designed for migrants residing in Ireland who are eager to engage in the country’s political landscape, including potential participation in elections. This comprehensive training equips migrants with a deep understanding of the various political systems in Ireland and empowers them to exercise their voting rights effectively.
