7th March 2023 : Dublin: The Irish Prime Minister, the Taoiseach, supported the teaching of gender identity in Irish primary schools.
The Catholic Schools Management Association opposed this and due to the nature of this discussion and it’s impact on also children of Irish Muslims, the Irish Muslim Council convened a meeting of its board to discuss this and issue a statement.
This statement was issued by the Irish Muslim Council. You can read how balanced it is opposing the teaching of gender identity to young children. The position of the Irish Muslim Council has taken into consideration the well-being of children and that gender identity is taught as a fact instead of a belief.
Due to this, it is leading and especially young children will be encouraged to socially transit which in most cases leads to medical transitioning (puberty blockers, hormones etc.) and finally to surgical transitioning. The scandal around the Tavistock’s gender identity clinic alone is sufficient to halt any such attempt for the well being of young children.
The statement has been criticized and opposed by transgender activists and lobbyists which are, as we all know, very vocal and loud. But at the same time, it has been welcomed by the silent majority which is testimony of the amount of likes on the statement on Twitter. We also received many direct messages from public figures, including ex Minister of State, in support of our stance.

It is not appropriate to teach primary school children such a complex and contested topic…… pic.twitter.com/6honvs9Ylf
