Dublin, August 14, 2024 — On the eve of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, the Embassy of Pakistan in Ireland hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony, drawing a large and diverse crowd from various walks of life. Families were among the attendees who gathered to celebrate the occasion.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Ireland, Aisha Farooqui, raising the national flag of Pakistan. Messages from Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister were then read aloud, conveying their sentiments on this significant day.
In her address, Ambassador Farooqui extended heartfelt Independence Day greetings to Pakistanis residing in Ireland and across the globe. She underscored the importance of unity, dedication, and hard work in shaping a prosperous future for the country. Reflecting on the sacrifices made by the nation’s founders, she paid tribute to those who fought for Pakistan’s independence.
The Ambassador also highlighted the strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Ireland. She shared the milestone of the establishment of Ireland’s first-ever resident embassy in Islamabad, which became operational on August 13, 2024. According to Farooqui, this new development is expected to significantly enhance relations between the two nations.
During the event, the Ambassador expressed her appreciation for the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Ireland over the past three decades. In recognition of their services, she awarded shields to two prominent Pakistani nationals: Mrs. Fauzia Bajwa, and Mr. Ammar Ali, the first Irish national of Pakistani origin to be elected to the Dublin City Council. Additionally, three Pakistani-Irish associations were honored for their efforts: Pakistan Overseas Community (POC), Financial Assistance for Medical Students (FAMS), and the Association of Irish Pakistani Physicians and Surgeons (AIPPS).
The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a cake to celebrate Pakistan’s 77th birthday. Guests enjoyed a traditional Pakistani brunch, rounding off the day’s celebrations with a taste of home.
