What holidays are important to you? The answer likely depends on your country of origin and your religion. In American Eid, a Disney Launchpad short film written and directed by Aqsa Altaf, Disney+ subscribers will see a story about a child who discovers that her favorite holiday isn’t embraced in her new country.

Celebrating her first Eid in the United States, Ameena didn’t realize that she would have to go to school on her favorite holiday. What’s worse, her sister Zainab is trying so hard to fit in at school that she’s trying to shed her Pakistani and Muslim identity to make new friends. Determined to make this holiday special, Ameena starts a petition to make Eid a public-school holiday.

With a happy ending and a story about a family trying to make the best out of a difficult situation, American Eid will be a meaningful experience for any viewer. Depicting a Muslim Pakistani family on their first Eid in the United States, audiences will also get a better understanding of the immigrant experience and become more empathetic.
