TikTok is opening a ‘transparency centre’ based in Ireland for EU

TikTok is to create a Transparency and Accountability Centre in Europe to provide an opportunity for experts and policymakers to see how the company builds and secures its platform. It comes as the social media platform continues to face questions over its security.

The company said it plans to offer virtual tours from June 2021, with the centre expected to be fully operational by 2022. TikTok is expanding its Irish presence further with a new European Transparency and Accountability Centre. The centre aims to highlight how the social media company uses its technology to help with content reviews, moderation and to help catch potential policy violations.

The facility will be TikTok’s first transparency and accountability centre in Europe. A similarly centre opened in the US last July and has been virtually visited by 24 experts and congressional officers.
