Ambassador Mariam Aftab held a detailed meeting with Professor David J. Burn, President of the University of Galway, to discuss strengthening academic and research collaboration between Pakistan and Irish institutions.
The meeting was also attended by Alex Metcalfe, Vice President of the University of Galway, and Ms. Lorna Cuckow, Director of Internationalization at the university. Discussions focused on expanding bilateral educational cooperation, with particular emphasis on joint initiatives in climate change research, environmental studies, and sustainable development.
Both sides explored opportunities to enhance institutional partnerships between the University of Galway and various Pakistani universities, including faculty exchanges, collaborative research projects, and increased student mobility programs. The dialogue highlighted shared priorities in addressing global environmental challenges through academic cooperation.
During the visit, Ambassador Mariam Aftab also engaged with Pakistani students enrolled at the University of Galway, as well as members of faculty of Pakistani origin. She appreciated their academic contributions and encouraged continued engagement in strengthening educational and cultural ties between Pakistan and Ireland.
The meeting was described as constructive, with both sides expressing commitment to deepening long-term academic collaboration.
