Tarbert, County Kerry – 5th Aug 2024
As part of community outreach and the promotion of people-to-people contacts between Ireland and Pakistan, the Embassy of Pakistan, in collaboration with the Tarbert Heritage Society of Ireland, organized a plaque unveiling ceremony to commemorate the life journey of Mrs. Jennifer Musa Qazi. The event took place in Tarbert, County Kerry, and celebrated Mrs. Qazi’s significant contributions as a member of the Pakistani Parliament in the 1970s.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of the Irish Pakistani community, including the Minister for Education, the Mayor of County Kerry, several councillors, and representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador of Pakistan, Aisha Farooqui, along with Irish dignitaries, unveiled the memorial plaque honoring Mrs. Qazi’s services.
In a touching moment, the granddaughters of Mrs. Qazi traveled from Pakistan to participate in the event. Additionally, a short video message from Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, son of the late Mrs. Jennifer Qazi, was played during the ceremony.
In her remarks, Ambassador Farooqui paid rich tribute to Mrs. Qazi for her unwavering commitment and efforts to improve the lives of her community members in Pishin, Balochistan, Pakistan. “Mrs. Jennifer’s journey as a human rights activist began long before she stepped onto our soil,” said the Ambassador. “Hailing from Tarbert, Kerry, and a nurse by profession, she was driven by a passion to serve humanity which transcended borders.”
Ambassador Farooqui also highlighted the progress in Pakistan-Ireland bilateral relations over the last three decades. She noted that the formal opening of the Irish resident mission in Islamabad would facilitate more bilateral interactions and visits between the two countries. Additionally, she appreciated the contribution of the Pakistani diaspora to the economic development of Ireland.
The initiative has received positive feedback from both the Pakistani and Irish communities. The Embassy of Pakistan expressed its commitment to continue efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
