H.E Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Chairman Senate held a meeting with the Speaker of the Irish Parliament, the Honourable Verona Murphy in Dublin along with members of his delegation.Chairman Senate highlighted the important role played by Parliamentary diplomacy in cementing bilateral ties. He proposed establishing Parliamentary Friendship Groups in both Parliaments. Speaker Murphy agreed with these views and stated that following the completion of Senate elections, necessary steps could be undertaken for the establishment of Pakistan Ireland Friendship Group in the Dail.
The two sides also discussed opportunities for bilateral trade and investment. Chairman Senate highlighted key sectors including information technology, agriculture and food processing, dairy farming etc. which could offer mutually beneficial partnerships to businesses on both sides. In this regard, Chairman Senate briefed the Irish side on the establishment of SIFC to facilitate foreign investors in Pakistan. He also appreciated humanitarian assistance offered by Ireland during natural calamities in Pakistan especially during the devastating floods in 2022.
Separately Chairman Senate also met members of the Pakistani community in Ireland and office bearers of the Pakistan Ireland Business Council. He urged the Pakistani Irish businessmen to explore the investment potential in Pakistan in several sectors.
